The fall eLearning conference season is in full swing! eThink started it off by attending two back-to-back eLearning conferences in Toronto. Both were excellent conferences, but with two very different audiences.
Here’s a recap of the Canadian Ellucian Users Group (CEUG) Conference and two conferences that bundled together for the first time this year, Online Learning 2018 and I4PL 2018. Below you’ll find our highlights from each show, as well as why we’re eager to return next year!
The first was the Canadian Ellucian Users Group, or CEUG for short, on October 10-12, 2018. As an Ellucian Alliance Partner, it was great to speak with so many users of Ellucian’s Student Information Systems (SIS), including Banner, Colleague and PowerCampus.
During his presentation, “Understanding the Open eLearning Ecosystem with Moodle & Totara,” eThink CEO Brian Carlson highlighted the benefits of an open-source community which allows technology to keep pace at a much faster rate.
Attendees displayed a positive reaction to this presentation. In fact, many who have struggled to piece their eLearning ecosystems together cohesively, particularly the SIS and LMS, were interested in the real-time integration capabilities from eThink. Unlike many competitors, we allow for seamless communication between an institution’s two most important systems.
I4PL 2018 & Online Learning 2018
The second of the two Toronto conferences was the joint program for Online Learning 2018 and I4PL 2018. It was the debut of the combination of a conference primarily designed for Higher Education (Online Learning) and a second conference focused on corporate learning and professional education (I4PL). Based on the feedback we received, attendees felt they greatly benefited from the synergies of the two sectors as corporate eLearning tends to mirror eLearning trends in Higher Education. This paves the way for an even greater event in 2019!
eThink returned to the presentation platform for three different sessions at the conference. These sessions were broken into 8 separate presentation tracks. CEO Brian Carlson presented on the open eLearning ecosystem.
Claire Machia, Director of Support Services at eThink Education, presented innovative solutions for corporate training on Wednesday. She later presented again on Thursday with innovative solutions specific for Higher Education. During her sessions, Claire spoke of the importance of integrations between other components of the eLearning ecosystem, the drive toward higher adoption levels across the organization, and the ability to draw information out of the LMS with reporting and analytics. Claire’s comments resonated with the many folks who attended.
During the many conversations in the exhibit hall, we had a handful of particularly interesting discussions with current Moodle users, who expressed their desire to get more out of the platform. This was especially true for those who attended Claire’s sessions and saw the many ways eThink helps our clients. Those conversations illustrated how eThink can help build on what course creators already know. And, it convinced some that rather than considering an LMS change, all they might need is a vendor change. We see this happy shift in mindset amongst Moodlers who have been stung by the ‘Sins of Moodle Past.’
