This abbreviation stands for the Aviation Industry Computer-based training Committee (AICC), an early adopter of eLearning.
As such, its content portability standards have been adopted widely by other organizations. They are a little outdated because they are old enough they do not reflect all the current best practices, but they are still widely used because of their longstanding utility.
AICC standards are likely to continue to persist for some time because of their widespread use.
