What Is Artificial Intelligence?

Software systems that are designed to make decisions based on a combination of programming and past success are emerging in many fields, including online learning. While science fiction has most people thinking of AI as an artificial person, the term actually relates to the wider field of machine systems that can learn from stimuli and apply the information to future decision-making situations.

That includes the advertising algorithms that help platforms fit your ad experience to your personal tastes as well as complex neural network systems, and a lot of things in-between. In an online learning context, AI can be used to serve customized content to users by monitoring their performance and progress through material, then serving content that helps them reach competency in areas they have not yet mastered.
